fanlisting !::.
a fanlisting, just as its name implies, is a listing of fans for a given topic. "fanlistings" were thought up by one person, janine, some time ago when she sought to make a fanlist of buffy fans. there is only one approved fanlisting per subject and all the approved fanlists make up an immense database at thefanlistings.org, which is manned by some 60 volunteers.
this site makes up two fanlistings for, respectively, rosencrantz and guildenstern of william shakespeare's "hamlet."

r to the g !::.
what can i possibly say about rosencrantz and guildenstern? before there was bill and ted, laurel and hardy, sylvester and tweety, sam and frodo, peanut butter and jelly, there was rosencrantz and guildenstern, the original dynamic duo. they are the back bone of "hamlet" and you know it.
rosencrantz and guildenstern are the most celebrated (and long named) feckless minor characters in all of western literature (so i say).
rosencrantz and guildenstern appear in "hamlet" when hamlet's mother and uncle decide they need to spy on hamlet and think hamlet's most intimate friends from school might just do the job. rosencrantz and guildenstern then burst onto the scene with such an anti-flourish, the audience is immediately made to wonder, "so... how on earth did intelligent, over-sensitive hamlet ever befriend these two clods?"
through out the course of the play, rosencrantz and guildenstern live the perfect status quo. they are so interchangeable, no one can tell them apart, they happily (but not over-happily) and often enough, repeat each other's words and phrases and in all honesty, a dented spoon could outwit them; yet, our hearts go out to them. in the end, when they become embroiled in a murder plot to kill hamlet which severely backfires, we are made to weep.
piteously.
because, dude.
they made the play. so much so, years and years later, they were given their own in tom stoppard's play, "rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead."

why !::.
i love "hamlet" and just about every character in the famed play. rosencrantz and guildenstern have always held a soft spot in my heart however, as they are so funnily useless. everything about them is so banal and dull, i cannot help but laugh and anyone who makes me laugh uproariously in a shakespearian tragedy deserves a fanlisting.
also, my dearest cousbian asked that i might make such a site as this one and as i love her, i obliged. to the one who plays the gfunk to my rmatey, cuzz fuzz, these fanlistings are dedicated to you.

layout !::.
this layout features a screen capture from the film, "rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead" starring gary oldman and tim roth. the capture was found at the r & g in looove live journal community.
the opening text of the site is a quote from "hamlet," spoken by hamlet, when he first sees rosencrantz and guildenstern in the play.

title !::.
the name of this site comes from the fact, "rosencrantz" and "guildenstern" are such incredibly long names, actors in productions of "hamlet" have been known refer to them as "knife and fork."
